City Confirms Ownership and Next Steps for Texas Theater

The City of Hillsboro has completed an exchange to acquire the Texas Theater, trading the former Municipal Court building on Waco Street following approval by the City Council. The Municipal Court property had previously been offered for sale before the exchange opportunity was presented and accepted.

In a statement on Facebook, City leadership noted that the City is not in a position to use significant General Fund resources for the project, as those funds are committed to core services such as streets and public safety. Instead, the City will consider a modest amount of restricted funding, along with community fundraising and volunteer support, to gradually improve the building’s usability over time.
