Done deal: Hillsboro takes ownership of century-old theater

The City of Hillsboro has completed an exchange to acquire the Texas Theater, finalizing ownership of the historic downtown building. The agreement involved trading the former Municipal Court building, with the deal officially closing at the end of March.
City officials indicated that only a limited amount of restricted funding may be available for the project. Moving the building toward future use will likely require a combination of community fundraising, volunteer efforts, and additional support.
The theater, originally opened as the Palace Theatre in 1926, has been part of Hillsboro’s history for nearly a century and is now entering a new phase under city ownership.
