City signs lease, and now has “the Keys” for the Texas Theater Building in Hillsboro, Texas

City Manager Megan Henderson is pictured signing a lease for the Texas Theater building Friday, June 6, as the city explores possibilities for the future.

The city is leasing the building from its owner, F&R Industrial, while gauging interest in making the site a community event center.

The city council approved the plan in December 2023, when Henderson explained that citizens expressed a desire for more entertainment options and improvements to under-developed properties during the strategic planning process.

The next step will be exploring costs for basic repairs, like HVAC and cleanup, and determining whether support exists for repurposing the site.
